DPF / EGR / AdBlue

DPF regeneration is needed when the filter becomes clogged, usually indicated by a warning light on the dashboard. Regular motorway driving at sustained speeds helps passive regeneration complete naturally. If the light keeps returning, a forced regeneration or professional DPF clean may be required — we carry out both services at your location.
Common symptoms include a DPF warning light, reduced engine power (limp mode), increased fuel consumption, and a strong smell from the exhaust. If left untreated a blocked DPF can cause turbo or engine damage — early intervention is always the cheaper option.
Physically removing or bypassing a DPF on a road-legal vehicle is illegal in the UK and will cause an automatic MOT failure. We offer legal DPF regeneration and deep-clean services that fully restore the filter without removing it.
An EGR solution resolves issues caused by a clogged or malfunctioning EGR valve — improving engine efficiency, removing related fault codes, and preventing carbon build-up in the intake manifold that can lead to costly repairs over time.
Most modern diesel vehicles will enter limp mode and eventually refuse to restart once AdBlue is completely empty — this is a legal emissions compliance requirement. We can top up AdBlue and clear any related fault codes on the same visit.

Remapping & Performance Tuning

Stage 1 is a software-only tune suited to completely standard hardware — ideal for most road cars. Stage 2 requires supporting hardware upgrades such as a larger intercooler or upgraded exhaust. Stage 3 involves extensive mechanical modifications for maximum, typically track-level, performance.
Gains vary by engine. Diesel engines typically see 20–40% increases in power and torque; turbocharged petrols usually gain 15–30%. Real-world benefits include sharper throttle response, reduced turbo lag, and improved fuel economy at motorway cruising speeds.
A remap can affect your manufacturer warranty. We always recommend checking your warranty terms before proceeding. For vehicles already outside of warranty, remapping is a highly cost-effective way to unlock meaningful performance gains.
Yes. The improved low-end torque from a remap reduces the need to rev hard or downshift frequently, which lowers fuel consumption. Many customers report 5–15% better MPG on diesel vehicles in everyday driving conditions.
VMAX removal lifts the manufacturer's electronic top-speed limiter via ECU software. It is safe on vehicles in good mechanical condition and is intended for private land or track use only — public road speed limits still apply by law.
Yes. DSG and automatic gearbox optimisation adjusts shift points, clutch pressure, and torque limits for sharper response or improved efficiency. Particularly popular with VW Group vehicles but available across many manufacturers.

ECU & Diagnostics

A full diagnostic scan reads fault codes from the ECU and all secondary modules — ABS, airbag, gearbox, and more. We interpret the codes, identify root causes, and advise on next steps. The entire check is carried out at a location convenient for you.
Fault codes should only be cleared after the underlying problem has been fixed. Clearing without repairing simply turns the warning light off temporarily — the code will return. We always diagnose, resolve (or advise), and then clear.
ECU coding is required when fitting a used or replacement ECU, enabling factory options (parking sensors, reversing camera), or resolving software incompatibilities after parts replacement. It ensures all vehicle modules communicate correctly.
EEPROM chips hold critical data including security codes, immobilizer configuration, and ECU settings. Reading the chip directly is often necessary for key programming, ECU repair, or cloning when standard OBD access is not sufficient.
Odometer R/W is needed after an instrument cluster or ECU replacement to ensure displayed mileage matches the vehicle's actual mileage, keeping it legally compliant. We do not alter mileage for fraudulent purposes.

Immobiliser & Key Programming

In most cases yes — new keys can be added while keeping existing keys active. Some older systems require all keys to be erased and re-programmed in a single session. We will advise you on this before the visit.
Reading the key count shows exactly how many keys are currently authorised to start your car. This is especially important when buying a used vehicle, as it reveals whether any unauthorised keys exist that could be a security risk.
The vehicle's security PIN is required by the immobilizer before new keys can be authorised. We can retrieve the PIN using specialist diagnostic tools when the original documentation is lost or unavailable.
A small number of older vehicles allow basic remote synchronisation without tools, but most modern cars require professional programming equipment and immobilizer access. DIY attempts can lock the system permanently, creating a significantly more expensive repair.
Yes. A faulty immobiliser or lost key synchronisation is a common cause of a no-crank or no-start with no engine warning lights. We diagnose and resolve immobiliser faults at your location, often in a single visit.

General Service Questions

Yes. CarEcuMap Doctor is a fully mobile service. Our technician comes to your home, workplace, or any convenient location across Kent and the surrounding area — saving you the cost and inconvenience of a recovery truck or dealer visit.
We work on the vast majority of European, Asian, and American passenger cars and light commercials — including VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Vauxhall, Toyota, and many more. Contact us with your registration plate for a quick confirmation.
A diagnostic check or fault clear typically takes 30–60 minutes. A remap or DPF regeneration usually takes 1–2 hours. Key programming and EEPROM work varies by vehicle. We give you a realistic estimate when booking.
Generally every 5,000–10,000 miles or as stated in your vehicle's service schedule. Variable-interval vehicles display a service reminder on the dashboard. Using the correct oil specification is critical, especially on turbocharged and direct-injection engines.
